Why tissue culture

Seeds shuffle genetics. Root cuttings can carry disease from field to field. Our slips start as a sterile shoot from a selected mother tree and are multiplied in the lab, so a plantation of a thousand behaves like one tree planted a thousand times.

Before you order
What is a tissue culture slip?
A young tree grown in a lab from a tiny piece of a selected mother tree. It is rooted and acclimatized before it ships, ready for you to pot up and grow on or plant out.
Do you sell larger trees?
Yes, as Field Liners on commercial contracts. These are our slips grown on to 12 to 18 in and hardened off. Reach out through the Commercial page for details.
Will it grow in my area?
Paulownia fortunei grows in USDA zones 6 to 10 on well-drained soil. It does not tolerate standing water. Check your state rules too. See Responsible planting in the field guide.
When will my order ship?
Live plants ship March through June and in September and October. You choose a ship week at checkout that matches your zone.
How fast will it grow?
With water, sun, and good drainage, young trees can add many feet of height in a single season. Growth depends on your site and care.
What if a plant arrives damaged?
Send us a photo within 3 days of delivery and we will replace it. (Draft policy, to be confirmed.)
